She’s Fed Up! He Can’t Do the Dishes Correctly, But How He Does Them Will Probably Make You Cringe Too
Have you ever been in a relationship with someone who does a particular task in a way that really grates on you? Some of these tasks may be minor, while some of them may have a serious impact on the way you live.
A Reddit user (28F) has recently taken to the social media platform to express her frustration at the way her boyfriend (30M) washes the dishes. His methods are so bad, in her opinion at least, that they give her anxiety. Let’s see what all the fuss is about.
The Wrong Way to Wash Dishes
The original poster (OP) starts off by stating that her boyfriend had given her permission to make the Reddit post because they both want to find out whether his dishwashing skills really are THAT bad. She says that while it isn’t “super important,” it does give her anxiety.
How He Does Dishes
Explaining his dishwashing method, OP explains that her boyfriend washes cups and dishes in soapy/dirty water and then immediately places them on the drying rack. To her, this is crazy because she has always included a step where you rinse the dishes after cleaning them and before you place them on the drying rank.
The Shock
After seeing him do this the first time, she decided to take matters into her own hands and started doing the dishes herself. Her primary concern is that she isn’t sure if the dishes will be cleaned to a high enough standard if the rinsing stage is skipped out, and she doesn’t want to get needlessly ill.
She Got Injured
Recently, the couple have encountered a stumbling block because OP recently sprained her wrist on a hiking trip and can, therefore, no longer wash the dishes. This means that her boyfriend is back on dishwashing duties.
Before this new regime starts, she wanted to ask other Redditors for their opinion on the matter. Is his way of cleaning dishes unhygienic and a health risk or she is being overly dramatic?
OP Vindicated
OP will no doubt be feeling happy that she took the time to post on Reddit as she received the reassurance she needed that her boyfriend’s methods were indeed unhygienic and wrong. Explaining the science behind it, one user said:
“He needs to rinse the dishes after he puts soap on them. The way that soap works is that it breaks down the grease and food particles and other stuff that’s on the dishes that’s not water soluble. The soap makes it so that these particles can be washed away in the clean water.”
More Opinions
Others were forthright with their opinions, with one user saying that “he’s doing it objectively wrong and the dishes will not be clean this way,” while another asked if he leaves shampoo in his hair too.
Even Non Germophobes Agree
One user suggested that laziness was the main root of the problem. They said:
“I’m not even a germaphobe, nor am I particularly picky, especially if someone wants to do the dishes, but this is just GROSS. And lazy. It doesn’t take long to rinse the freaking dish! Rinse off the soap and scum in HOT water for sanitizing purposes.” Source: Reddit
